PRE SESSION (May 19-June 13)Topics for French Oral Proficiency THIS COURSE HAS BEEN CANCELLED.French for Study Abroad Permission of instructor required. A workshop designed to accommodate students at various language learning levels who seek additional preparation in speaking, writing, listening, and reading for Study Abroad. The course will help students develop the skills that will be expected of them in the French/Fracnophone university system. Strongly recommended for Georgetown students who received a "conditional" acceptance on the French Study Abroad Evaluation.
FIRST SESSION (June 2-July 3)Introductory French I This course is intended for students with little or no previous background in French. Emphasis is placed on the acquisition of basic grammar and the active use of the spoken language with diversified oral and written exercises, dictation, and conversational practice. Required laboratory. Intermediate French I Prereq: FREN-002 or equivalent, as determined by instructor. This course is intended for students who have completed one year of college French or two to three years of high school French. Emphasis continues to be placed on active use of the spoken language, with frequent oral and written drills and conversation practice. Basic grammar is thoroughly reviewed.
SECOND SESSION (July 7-August 8)Introductory French II Prereq: FREN-001 or equivalent, as determined by instructor. This course is intended for students who have completed one introductory college-level semester or one to two years of high school French. Emphasis is placed on the acquisition of basic grammar and the active use of the spoken language with diversified oral and written exercises, dictation, and conversational practice. Required laboratory. Intermediate French II Prereq: FREN-021 or equivalent, as determined by instructor. This course is intended for students who have completed three semesters of college-level French or three to four years of high school French. Emphasis continues to be on active use of the spoken language, with frequent oral and written drills and conversation practice. Continuation or thorough review of basic grammar. Continuation of readings on French civilization. Required laboratory.
