This course is for non-MSB students only.  This course is a comprehensive and substantive overview of the major functional areas of business including the processes of planning, organizing, leading, and controlling. Case studies will be utilized.

Management and Organizational Behavior

Prereq: Must have Sophomore or Junior standing. This course is a comprehensive overview of the management process and organizational behavior from a behavioral and social science perspective. Topics include: management across cultures; managing with ethics and social responsibility; fundamentals of organizing; organizational culture and design; leadership; motivation and communication; interpersonal skills; teamwork and group dynamics; goal-setting; alternative work arrangements; power and politics; conflict and negotiation; managing change; and management development.  Emphasis is on the analysis and understanding of human behavior in organizations.


SPECIAL PROGRAM (June 2-July 3)

Fundamentals of Business: Leadership in a Global Economy

This intensive six-credit program is designed for non-business majors who want to learn more about the business environment.  Participants will gain a basic understanding of business language, concepts and organizations so that they may refine their career interests, enhance their "first job" skills base and perform confidently in interviews.  The curriculum includes finance, marketing, management, accounting, communications, strategic planning, organizational behavior, information systems and business law.  A hands-on Business Simulation is also a component of the program.  Tuition and application cost excludes course materials and field trips. 


SPECIAL SESSION (May 19-August 8)

Permission of the instructor required. The course is a three-credit honors seminar available to rising juniors and seniors with a minimum Q.P.I. of 3.00.  The Internship in Management permits the student to gain practical work experience in a business environment. Students select a specific area within the field of business and explore it in greater depth outside the normal classroom situation. The purpose of the internship is to provide the student with an understanding of how a business actually operates and how theories learned in school are applied in the business world. Approved internships must be in the field of business and must provide a significant learning experience for the student.
